Job Summary:
Phoenix College (PC), the first public junior college in Arizona, welcomed its first students on September 13, 1920. In 1962, PC transitioned to a community college that is part of the Maricopa Community College District. This position will teach students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures at the freshman and sophomore level Computer Information System Courses in a classroom/lab setting. Specific knowledge of current technology. Develop and teach a variety of
Technology Courses including; networking, cybersecurity, A+, programming, computer information systems, and stay current with technology.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises and instructs students in a classroom/computer lab setting using a variety of presentation techniques emphasizing technology.
- Develops course syllabi, outlines and other course materials for a variety of course preparations.
- Maintains office hours to assist and advise students.
- Participates in campus, district, community and partnership meetings and committee work
- Evaluates knowledge of subject matter including grading and monitoring of student’s scholastic records.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A master’s degree in the teaching field, or a master’s in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field, or
2. A bachelor’s degree plus three years work experience in field to be taught, or an associate’s degree or 64 semester hours and five
years work experience in the field to be taught, or five years work experience in the field to be taught
3. EDU 250 – Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire
Desired Qualifications
1. Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems or Technology Area.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems or Technology Area with upper division course work in IT courses.
3. Experience in IT field with networking, cyber security, programming, systems analysis, and or hardware and software experience,
beyond using MS Office.
4. Industry Certifications in the following areas: Networking, Security, Windows, Linux/Unix, Virtualization, Cloud Technology.
5. Teaching experience at the community college level within the last 5 years in the area of IT.
6. Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of a Learning College.
7. Experience with diverse student populations at the Community College level.
Special Working Conditions
May include evenings and/or weekends depending on department needs.
May require local travel.
May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor
May be required to lift objects up to 30 lbs.
