Boeing Arizona STEM Signing Day Celebrated Future STEM Leaders

Students From Around the State Honored for Commitment to Pursuing STEM Careers

Just like college signing days for athletes, the second annual Arizona STEM Signing Day celebrated outstanding high school seniors from around the state as they made their commitments to education programs focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Boeing held the event on June 11 to recognize 30 students, as these future leaders of STEM signed letters of intent to pursue a two- or four-year degree in a STEM field after high school.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this traditionally in-person ceremony was instead held as a virtual event streamed live on Zoom. This year’s Arizona STEM Signing Day, presented by Boeing in partnership with Arizona Science Center and SciTech Institute, featured personal videos and photos from each of the 30 selected students signing their letters of intent, and included a keynote address from Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, Regent Taylor Robson, as well as speakers from Boeing.

“Boeing hosts STEM Signing Day events to demonstrate our commitment to STEM education and the future workforce of our communities across the country. We were proud to partner with the Arizona Science Center and SciTech Institute to honor these remarkable young people who plan to pursue degrees and careers in these important fields. The future is bright for these promising young minds, so we’re certain they will achieve great success in their studies and experience many accomplishments in life,” said Leann Shaffer, Boeing Community Investor.

Graduating high school seniors from all around the state applied to be a part of Arizona STEM Signing Day. The 30 students who were selected to participate were chosen based on their involvement in STEM education. The designated students received celebration boxes as awards, which included an Amazon gift card for books and school supplies, Boeing gifts, tickets to visit the Arizona Science Center, SciTech Institute swag items and an official STEM Signing Day certificate. A full list of the honorees, along with their high schools, future colleges and intended programs of study is available here.

“As Arizona’s largest provider of interactive STEM education, we were delighted to support this event and join other businesses and organizations in recognizing these students’ talents, curiosity and drive for success in future STEM careers,” said Beth Nickel, Arizona Science Center Chief Learning Officer.

“Motivating and encouraging the next generation of STEM leaders has never been more important. These students are our future, so we are pleased to be instrumental in connecting them with opportunities and inspiring them to reach for the stars and go after their dreams.” says SciTech Institute Executive Director, Jeremy Babendure.
